Rory McIlroy is based in Florida, so it’s not a big surprise he sat out last week’s WGC-Mexico Championship in favor of making his Valspar Championship debut this week.

He’ll play a few more events in the buildup to Augusta, and more reps appear needed if he’s going to complete the career Grand Slam next month.

McIlroy’s 2017 was littered with distractions such as a caddy split, injuries, poor performance by his standards, etc.

Presumably with all that behind him, it’s time to start seeing some results.

So far, McIlroy’s teased us with two top-fives in the desert on the European Tour and a T20 at the Genesis Open.

If he can hone in on his irons and roll a few putts, the snowball could get rolling down the hill.

Without the likes of Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm in the field, McIlroy might be the most talented in the field this week if he can put together 72 holes.
