Stroke play takes a back seat this week for the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin, Texas

We’re two weeks away from Augusta, but it’s time to bust out the brackets (and pools) for the WGC-Match Play.

At Monday night’s selection, 16 pools of four players were selected. The top 16 seeds each get their own pool with a stratified draw used to fill out the final three players.

The winner of each pool advances to the single-elimination knockout stage held Saturday and Sunday. This format has been intact since 2015 and replaces the 64-player, single-elimination bracket used from 1999-2014.

Tiger Woods appears on his way to the world top 64 soon enough, but he failed to qualify for the event. A few big names like Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose are sitting this one out as is Brooks Koepka due to injury.

It’s a tough time on the schedule to deviate from stroke play, but nonetheless, a talented field is assembled at Austin Country Club in Texas.

This is the third year at ACC. The parkland style course measures at 7,108 yards. It offers a variety of holes that require different ball flights, proper positioning on undulating greens and opens up varying strategies.

Several short par-4s bring eagles into the mix, offering up a good mix of risk-reward holes. Visually, ACC won’t blow you away watching from home, but it provides an ample stage for the theatrics of match play to take over.

Let’s take a look at the groups and see who will survive in advance during golf’s version of March Madness
