Ranking the top ten traditions in The Masters Tournament history
The Masters Tournament is one of the most iconic events in all of sports. It’s no surprise that the event is also steeped in tradition. Here, we’re taking a look at the ten best traditions in Masters history.
The Masters truly does live up to its iconic billing: a tradition unlike any other. That’s more than just a (very expensive) trademark held by Augusta National Golf Club, it’s a legitimately earned title. The club was founded in 1933, and the first Masters tournament was held in 1934. Even as nearly a century has passed, so much of what Bobby Jones began lives on to this day.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that nothing at all has changed over the years. One of the greatest things about the Masters is that old traditions carry on, while new ones still have room to grow. Especially since the turn of the 21st century, the Club has begun to blend its insular nature with its worldwide reach to become the gold standard of what a sporting event can be.
In this column, we’re taking a look at ten of the greatest traditions of the Masters tournament. Some are old, and some are relatively new, but all have become synonymous with the championship and Augusta National overall. And each one looks to play a major part in the Augusta experience for years to come.
For an event so steeped in its traditions, there were, of course, several that couldn’t make this list. That’s just how it has to be, so feel free to reach out to us on Twitter (@ProGolfNow) and let us know your favorite Masters traditions. We can’t wait to hear from you!
We’ve waited a year for Masters week to return, so let’s not waste any more time getting started.
