The Masters Power Rankings: Top ten picks to don the green jacket
Justin Rose had one arm in the jacket at times during the 2017 Masters. He led on the back nine on Sunday against a previously snakebitten Sergio Garcia. The two both separated from the pack before Garcia finished in style in a playoff.
That was Rose’s second runner-up finish at Augusta and the last of his five top-10s here in 12 starts. He’s also never missed a cut, let alone finish worse than T39.
So many close calls without a win can be gnawing. Rose has one of the best demeanors in the game and appears to have peace of mind about his Augusta shortcomings.
"“I have positive and fond memories of last year. I hit a lot of great shots,” Rose was quoted by the BBC. “I don’t feel bad about it whatsoever but when you lose a playoff in a major you look back and think what might have been.”"
Rose admitted it took a month or so to recapture the motivation. He’s since back to his world class play.
The Englishman won three times in Europe and Asia late in 2017 and has three worldwide top-10s in 2018.
