The Masters Power Rankings: Top ten picks to don the green jacket
Given the talent in today’s game, I would have had some consternation picking Tiger for Augusta even just a month ago. He’s exceeded our collective expectations in a handful of starts in 2018 and is trending upward for his 21st trip down Magnolia Lane.
Woods’ Masters history speaks for himself. He’s four a times a winner and has nine more top-10s. He won his first major in dominant fashion in 1997.
Even amid personal and health struggles this decade, Woods has still summoned the best he’s got in the tank at Augusta. Woods has three T4 finishes from 2010 to 2013 and was T17 in his last start in 2015. He’s missed just one cut here, and that was in 1996.
Given his odds (+1100 to win as of Monday night on OddsShark), picking Woods doesn’t offer a ton of financial upside. Nonetheless, he’s winning people over by the day and could redefine his legacy by adding a green jacket that would go great (or not) with all that Monster gear he’s got.
Practice round playing partner Fred Couples told the media on Monday:
"“If you watched him play, there’s not much of a back problem. He’s hitting it a long way, and it looks beautiful. Today wasn’t any different than it was 10 years ago when we played. It was pretty awesome.”"
