AUSTIN, TX – MARCH 21: Patrick Cantlay of the United States plays his shot from the second tee during the first round of the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play at Austin Country Club on March 21, 2018 in Austin, Texas. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images) /

Cantlay made a splash in his Harbour Town debut in 2017, posting a T3. It was his second top-five in four weeks and a harbinger of more to come as he capped 2017 with a win at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The 26-year-old snapped his impressive streak of 15 made cuts in a row dating back to Feb. 2017 last week at Augusta.

That does little to scare me away from Cantlay who came within two shots of a playoff last year in Harbour Town without his best stuff all week.

His statistical profile doesn’t check off a lot of boxes for success here (i.e. proximity to the hole), but he hits over 70 percent of his greens and owns positive strokes gained numbers across the board.

Cantlay appears a rather mentally tough player who won’t shy away from a tight, tough challenge like this.
