SOTOGRANDE, SPAIN – APRIL 17: Andrew Johnston of England poses with the trophy after victory during the final round on day four of the Open de Espana at Real Club Valderrama on April 17, 2016 in Sotogrande, Spain. (Photo by Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images) /

Andrew Johnston returns to the site of his lone European Tour victory where the legend of “Beef” was forged. We all got to know and love the bearded Englishman after he shared he “can’t wait to get hammered” back at home in celebration of his 2016 Open de España win.

Johnston toughed out his win at one-over in 2016 at Real Club Valderrama. While this year’s event has moved to Centro Nacional, more cool and tough conditions could be on the way.

Beef missed some time in 2017 due to injury. He now appears back in good stead, tallying three top-12s on the European Tour this season.

He lost in a playoff to countryman Matt Wallace in his last start last month at the Hero Indian Open. Johnston also recorded a T9 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship against a solid field.

Johnston is one of Europe’s more consistent ball strikers. He’s second in strokes gained tee-to-green and 11th in GIR. He’s also 18th in scrambling.

A good putting week could be all Beef needs to set up another raucous celebration.
