Valero Texas Open: Power Rankings at TPC San Antonio
Peanut butter and jelly. Mario and Luigi. Charley Hoffman and the Texas Open.
They just go well together.
“I saw a stat somebody showed me yesterday that I’m 43-under,” Hoffman said prior to the 2017 Texas Open. “The next closest person is like 13 or something like that which is sort of mind blowing. My excuse was I guess I played here more than anybody else.”
Perhaps Hoffman was jinxed as last year’s T40 finish (which dropped him to 41-under) was one of his “worst” at the Texas Open.
He’s never missed a cut in 13 starts at this event. Since the move to TPC San Antonio, Hoffman has a win in 2016, a co-runner-up in 2011 and five more finishes of 13th or better.
His win in 2016 gave him confidence that he could win while playing with the lead as his first two career wins were comebacks.
In 2018, Hoffman’s been solid, though not spectacular. He’s trending upward with his best finish coming in a T12 at the Masters. He tied for 23rd last week at the RBC Heritage and for 14th at last month’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.
This looks like the week for Hoffman to get over the top and contend for a title.
