Valero Texas Open: Power Rankings at TPC San Antonio
Chappell’s win at the 2017 Texas Open was no fluke. This is a course he really likes.
“I felt like I had some unfinished business here and, you know, there’s a lot of positives for me with this event, just one of the best run events we have all year,” Chappell said in his post-tournament presser. “It’s a course that really fits my eye. It’s great for my family, getting to stay at the resort here and, you know, they’re giving away 500 FedExCup Points. Those were the things that keep me motivated and key me coming back here.”
Chappell owns three top-five finishes at TPC San Antonio including a T2 in his debut in 2011. He’s played this event every year since and owns five made cuts against a withdrawal and just one missed cut.
One of his first professional starts in 2008 came at the Texas Open when it was held at La Cantera.
Chappell’s playing solid golf in 2018, too. He’s made three top-10s and has four more finishes of T31 or better (granted, two came against limited fields).
With a good putting week, Chappell’s ball striking (eighth on Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green) should shoot him to the top of the leaderboard again.
