Valero Texas Open: Power Rankings at TPC San Antonio
Adam Scott’s back to TPC San Antonio for the first time since 2011. He’s made a lot out of two starts at the Texas Open, winning at his — and the course’s — debut in 2010. He defended with a T23 in 2011.
Here’s what Scott had to say in 2010:
"“Felt like the landscape looks very similar to back home, kind of harsh, scrub land off the fairways and I had a feeling I knew Aussies would do well here this week. Greg’s greens are a lot like some of the sandbelt greens back at home, you know, that design and the bunkering. I felt comfortable on it and I think a lot of the other Aussies did, too, because there were a lot of Aussies up there through 36 holes this week and you know, when you feel comfortable like that, it certainly helps. I still — I hit so many drivers this week, way more than I normally would. I attacked the golf course and I think, you know, this course is — if you’re driving it well, this course is there to shoot a good number on. If you lay back, it’s pretty hard. If you miss it with a driver you’ll get penalized pretty hard. I was driving it well and went for it.”"
Scott’s had a bit of a slow start to 2018 by his standards. He’s made five of six cuts, but has not finished higher than T13 at the Honda Classic among four top-50 finishes. He’s slipped outside the top 50 in the world and will need some higher finishes to get in position to qualify for the year’s remaining WGCs.
His sweet swing is still producing (seventh on Tour in strokes gained tee-to-green) but his putter is on a cold streak (198th SG putting). Perhaps he can rekindle good vibes in Texas and win his first event since March 2016.
