Valero Texas Open: Power Rankings at TPC San Antonio
This former San Antonio resident and Texas A&M Aggie will feel right at home this week in the wind.
Without crunching the numbers, I’d have to think Palmer’s made the most money of anyone at this event without a win.
He comes into the week with three straight top-10s at the Texas Open and has two more top-15s at TPC San Antonio.
“I’ve had some success here playing in these conditions. That’s what helped drive me today, knowing I can play in the winds and this golf course, it’s a driver’s golf course,” Palmer said during last year’s tournament. “You got to hit your irons pretty precise.”
Palmer’s just 124th this season in driving accuracy, but he has an ability to hone it in at this course and avoid the bad misses.
His irons have been his bread and butter in his career. The 41-year-old is still going strong in that department, evidenced by his 40th standing in proximity to the hole and 17th from the rough.
Palmer contended at the Farmers Insurance Open this year (T2) and also has a T20 at the CareerBuilder Challenge.
Really, though, you can throw out the recent results in this case. Palmer’s going to have a great shot to play well whenever he steps on these grounds.
