Valero Texas Open: Power Rankings at TPC San Antonio
Brendan Steele is one of several in these rankings who’ve donned the Texas Open’s distinct championship cowboy boots.
Steele won his debut in 2011 and has since established himself as a horse for the course.
He’s made six of seven cuts at TPC San Antonio with a T4 in 2012 and a T8 in 2015.
Steele’s a difficult guy to rattle. His attitude suits well to take on what can be a frustrating, windy test of golf at this event.
“I don’t think there’s anything about the course that’s unfair even when the wind blows that hard,” Steele said before the 2012 Texas Open. “It demands really good shots and if you don’t hit them, you’re going to pay the price.”
He’s capable of hitting really good shots. Steele is 16th in strokes gained tee-to-green and 10th in greens in regulation.
Steele won the Safeway Open to begin the 2017-18 season and didn’t miss a cut until the Masters (by just two shots).
He played great at the Waste Management Phoenix Open (T3) and has two more T20s in stroke play events in 2018.
