AUGUSTA, GA – APRIL 06: Thomas Pieters of Belgium plays his second shot on the fifth hole during the second round of the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 6, 2018 in Augusta, Georgia. (Photo by David Cannon/Getty Images) /

Pieters hasn’t quite gotten over the hump to contend for wins this season. Playing primarily in North America, the young Belgian has made seven cuts in eight starts but has just two high finishes: a T13 at the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic and a T5 in Abu Dhabi.

Pieters slipped 15 placed in the world rankings, though it’s far too early to sound the alarm.

He is 0-for-2 in cuts made at the Trophee Hassan II, though this his first time back in three years. His length and ball striking could be a saving grace this week.

Pieters is 25th in driving distance and 13th in strokes gained approach-the-green on the PGA Tour.

If he’s hitting his mark, Pieters can position himself in the right spots on the Red Course’s large greens to roll in some birdies. On talent alone, Pieters is one of the best in the field this week.
