Zurich Classic Power Rankings: Picking the top ten teams in New Orleans
Both guys are named Patrick, but Cantlay and Reed appear to be fire and ice.
Cantlay is usually cool, calm and collected on the course. His play does the talking for him.
Reed’s a little more fiery and makes his presence known in more than one way.
“We bring each other to the middle,” Cantlay was quoted by the PGA Tour in 2017.
The two made things work reasonably well at the 2017 Zurich Classic where they tied for 14th at 17-under. They were one of the best best ball teams (16-under) but came undone with a 75 Saturday in alternate shot.
With a year under their belt, their strategy and execution has a good chance to improve in this tricky format.
Both are in better form coming into this year’s event, too. Reed’s finished in the top 10 in three straight stroke play events, notably his Masters win. Cantlay won his first event at the 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open this season and has added two more top-10s including his last start at the RBC Heritage two weeks ago.
Reed is is in the positive in all strokes gained categories and is fourth around-the-green. He’s getting better at shaping shots both ways.
Cantlay is a GIR machine and can bomb the ball just like Reed.
