CHARLOTTE, NC – MAY 06: Rickie Fowler of the United States celebrates with the championship trophy after defeating Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland and D.A. The long hair and mustache Fowler had when he won the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship are long gone. The high level talent never left.

The 29-year-old got a middling season back on track with a solo second-place finish in his last start at the Masters. He’s now rested for a stretch of two tournaments in a row he’s won with this week and next week’s PLAYERS Championship.

Fowler is 27th in approaches from 200-plus yards and averages a healthy 4.62 on par-5s.

He is in the positive in all major strokes gained categories but is no higher than 34th across the board.

If any one part of his game heats up, Fowler should get in the mix again at Quail Hollow. Fowler has four total top-10s here and was T5 at the 2017 PGA.

Less so now than as a younger player, Fowler’s been regarded as an overaggressive player. He clearly knows where to pick his spots at this event.

"“You can’t really get too aggressive out there,” Fowler was quoted in a PGATour.com story. “The biggest thing is first off getting the ball in the fairway. That way you can have some control going to the greens. If you try and maybe overpower it too much or get too aggressive, it will jump up and get you at some point.”"
