Wells Fargo Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Quail Hollow
South Carolinian Kevin Kisner isn’t far from home this week in Charlotte. In fact, it’s as close to a second home as he’s got.
"“I’ve spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas in Charlotte from childhood to marriage. Been here a ton,” Kisner said during the 2017 PGA Championship. “Got a lot of ties to Quail Hollow. Brother-in-law’s father is a founding member here. He’s still a member here. We spent a lot of time in Charlotte; my 93-year-old grandmother still lives here by herself. We’re here all the first time, only two hours away.”"
He should be comfortable with his game of late as well as recent course history at Quail Hollow.
Kisner posted his career best in a major here with a T7 last year at the PGA Championship. He led after 54 holes but couldn’t summon a low round on Sunday to bring it home.
Kisner also finished T6 in 2014 at the Wells Fargo Championship.
His lack of length won’t make life easy at a bomber’s paradise, but his accuracy off the tee (13th in fairways hit) and putting (seventh in strokes gained) will give him a good chance if he’s on.
Plus, if Quail Hollow plays close to as fast as did for the PGA, shorter hitters may be brought back closer to the field.
Speaking of being on, Kisner made the WGC-Match Play finals, posted a T7 at the RBC Heritage and played well with partner Scott Brown at last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans. A man for all formats, Kisner is.
