Paul Casey got the monkey off his back at the Valspar Championship to win on the PGA Tour for the first time since 2009. Something tells me more wins will be coming.

His reputation as a steady player has only continued in 2017-18.

Casey’s got four top-10s (one on the European Tour) and four more top-20s since the fall. He’s shown reasonably well at big events with a T15 at the Masters and T12 at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

Casey’s best finish at Quail Hollow came at last year’s PGA Championship where he tied for 13th.

The course becoming more difficult seems to play into his hands, even though he was not a fan of some of the changes. He’s reasonably long and straight off the tee to contend here. Casey’s a solid 40th in strokes gained off-the-tee and shines in most ball striking stats.

Taking advantage of the par-5s at Quail Hollow is important. Casey is seventh on Tour in par-5 scoring (4.53).

"“It’s a very demanding golf course from tee to green, which has been emphasized by the Bermuda grass which they have laid down on these greens,” Casey said at the 2017 PGA. “The greens are amazing, but you have to be in the right position. That works all the way back to the tee, getting the tee shots down the fairway perfectly down the right side.”"
