Fantasy Golf: Wells Fargo Championship DraftKings Picks
My “go-to” strategy, most weeks, is to spread my DraftKings salary out as much as I can. A lot of times, I’ll pass by the top guys, especially in the five-figure range, and try to jam in as many mid-range contenders as the cap allows.
This week, clearly, I’m changing that up. Phil Mickelson has been a strong contender all year, including a win back at the WGC-Mexico Championship. He’s been a bit down since then – a T-24 in Houston, followed by a T-36 at the Masters Tournament – but there aren’t many places I’d rather have him than Quail Hollow.
Let’s take a quick look at what makes a solid fantasy player. First, players need to make the cut. DraftKings – and every other fantasy golf game – rewards players who make the weekend. It’s simple; four rounds of birdies are better than two, right? Mickelson has played the Quail Hollow event 13 times in his career, and he’s made the cut every single time. Not bad, huh?
The other bonus? DraftKings rewards players for top finishes, with bonuses increasing dramatically inside the top ten. Of Mickelson’s 13 made cuts, seven have resulted in top-five finishes. This is a guy you need in your lineup.
Throw in Mickelson’s birdie barrage this season (he currently ranks third on TOUR in birdie average, at 4.72 per round) and you’ve got the makings of a potentially huge week to come.
Lefty is definitely not done winning golf tournaments, and everything is lining up perfectly for you to plug him into your DraftKings lineup.
