John Peterson: Five things to know about the First Round Leader

Peterson a possibility to play in the Walker Cup in 2021 if he regains amateur status.

Peterson has discussed the possibility of trying to regain his amateur status if he doesn’t retain his tour card. Normally this takes one to two years for players to do and would line him up to be a member of the 2021 Walker Cup team.

Golf Tournament, and losing in a playoff to Harris English (another amateur) at a Nationwide (Now Web.com) Tour event. He also won the Jones Cup in Sea Island, Georgia, a relatively recent but still prestigious amateur event won by Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas, Luke List, Kyle Stanley, and Beau Hossler among others in years past.

Despite all of this, he was left off the 2011 Walker Cup team, the first of many snubs that seem to happen in that tournament yearly. It would be fitting if he were to wrap up his professional career and regain amateur status to compete there in 2021.
