Winner last week? Check. Former PLAYERS Championship winner? Check.

It seems like the 2016 Jason Day is creeping back into the conversation. The former world No. 1 is back inside the top 10 after his win at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The scary thing is that he didn’t even have his best stuff Sunday in Charlotte.

He maneuvered around shaky ball striking by getting up-and-down beautifully. His mettle showed when he played the three-hole Green Mile closing stretch in 2018.

Day can be grouped in with the bombers due to his length, but it’s been his putter and short game getting it done all season. Day leads the Tour in strokes gained putting, picking up over a shot-and-a-half on the field every round. He’s yet to miss anything inside five feet all season.

Day’s advantage comes to over two shots gained a round when you add in that he’s fourth in SG around-the-green.

Defending PLAYERS champions don’t tend to play well the year after their defense. Plus, with Day’s personal turmoil in 2017, I’m not worried about last year’s mediocre finish.

Along with his wire-to-wire win, Day tied for sixth in 2011 and for 19th in 2013.

Oozing with confidence, Day will climb further up the rankings with a second win at Sawgrass.
