PLAYERS Championship: Fantasy golf tips for TPC Sawgrass

THE PLAYERS Championship boasts golf’s toughest field. That makes fantasy golf picks a little tougher, but that’s where we come in. These five players will help you win your DraftKings league this week.

The PLAYERS Championship is here, and for my money, it’s just as big of a week as any major. Say what you want about the “fifth major”, but the quality of the field – and the course – deserves it. The home of the PGA TOUR brings out, statistically, the strongest field of the entire year, and that makes things even more fun from a fantasy perspective.

This week on DraftKings, the field is ridiculously top-heavy. Three players have salaries over $11,000, and two more top the $10,000 mark. Add in four more players over $9,000, and you’re basically crippling your salary cap if you take more than one of these premium players.

So what is the intrepid fantasy player to do? Look for value, high and low, until you’ve got a balanced lineup. The name of the game, as always, is low-risk, high-reward. You’re looking for players who can not only make the weekend, but have a real chance to contend.

The good news there is that basically every player can find a way into that category. So what we’re really doing is looking for balance, especially at a course as tough as TPC Sawgrass.

Statistically, THE PLAYERS Championship is an event that rewards solid iron play and putting over naked, raw power. The greens are trickier than they get credit for, and the players who hit it tight will be able to drop a few extra birdies, offsetting any lost strokes.
