PLAYERS Championship Webb Simpson Fantasy Golf

Webb Simpson just doesn’t get the credit he deserves. One of the more consistent players on TOUR for the better part of a decade, he’s finished outside the top-50 in the FedEx Cup just three times since 2010. 2016 – not coincidentally, the year the PGA TOUR banned the anchored putting stroke – was also the only year since then that he didn’t have at least one win or runner-up finish.

So, while Webb Simpson probably won’t win any “most famous player” awards any time soon, that doesn’t mean you should pass him over in fantasy golf. Especially this week at THE PLAYERS, where he carries a measly $7,300 salary. He’s got two top-20 finishes at TPC Sawgrass in his career, including a T-16 just a year ago. Considering the quality of the field this tournament consistently boasts, that’s nothing to look down on.

Always a steady ball-striker (Simpson ranks 34th in proximity to the hole on approach), Simpson is actually putting as well as he ever has in 2018. Ranked 10th on TOUR in strokes gained putting and fifth in adjusted scoring, that’s a skill that will serve him well on the TPC’s often tricky greens.

As is always the case in fantasy, you have to find value in the lower-priced tiers. Don’t be surprised when Webb Simpson’s name pops up this weekend with some solid scoring.
