Ian Poulter PLAYERS Championship Fantasy Golf
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – APRIL 15: Ian Poulter of England hits a shot on the 14th hole during the final round of the 2018 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links on April 15, 2018 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images) /

Ian Poulter has had quite the 2018 season so far this year. He went from thinking he was qualified for the Masters, to finding out he wasn’t qualified for the Masters, to winning the Houston Open and earning his ticket to Augusta. And hey, that’s just the span of two weeks!

While Poulter’s Masters week didn’t quite turn out how he would have liked, he’s been solid in the weeks following the year’s first major, too. The veteran finished tied for seventh at Harbour Town despite a closing 75, then followed it up with a top-25 finish at Zurich with Graeme McDowell.

Combine that improvement in his recent form with a solid record at TPC Sawgrass, and you’ve got a potential recipe for success. Poulter has made 11 cuts in 14 trips to THE PLAYERS, and he’s a two-time runner up, in both 2017 and 2009. And although Brandel Chamblee might not think Poults was playing to win last year, second place is nothing to shake a stick at.

The prevailing wisdom is that THE PLAYERS is an event that rewards experience, and Poulter has that in spades. I have to believe that he’s hungry to prove that he is still on top of his game, and in a Ryder Cup year, that energy will double if he’s in contention heading into the weekend. If you’re going to take a shot, Poulter is a solid addition to your roster.
