Spieth may have gotten his PGA Tour start at the Byron Nelson (held last week), but his lone win in the Lone Star state came at Colonial. Some might wonder how he only has one trophy from his five trips to Hogan’s Alley.

The Dallas native’s resume at this event, starting in 2013, reads: T7-T14-T2-1-T2. Spieth’s a staggering 52-under-par in these 20 rounds.

"“It’s one of those courses where whether I have my A game or not, I seem to find my way into contention, which is really cool,” Spieth was quoted by Golf Channel. “It’s one of four or five places I go into, no matter where the game is at, I’m excited to get started and feel like I have a chance to win.”"

Colonial could be just what the doctor ordered for a disappointing 2017-18 season compared to his lofty standards.

Spieth’s missed just one cut, but we expect more. He has two third-place finishes, but hasn’t really gone to the closing holes with a chance to grab a tournament by the throat as we’ve seen so often.

It’s beating a dead horse to say he needs to figure things out with the putter. That’ll be the obvious difference maker this week. Playing on the familiar bentgrass should help the cause.

I whiffed on putting Spieth No. 1 last week. Now it’s time to be vindicated.
