Fort Worth Invitational Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Colonial
After forgoing last week’s AT&T Byron Nelson, the former SMU Mustang Bryson DeChambeau’s supports in the DFW can rally around him this week.
DeChambeau will aim to continue fine form that’s netted him three top-fours in his last five starts.
DeChambeau shot 68 and lost only to a Rory McIlroy bonanza at the Arnold Palmer. He finished one out of a playoff at the RBC Heritage (T3) and bounced back from an opening 75 at the Wells Fargo to finish solo fourth.
Each of the last two times DeChambeau teed it up at Colonial came in the thick of a slump. Now in year three on Tour, DeChambeau is starting to feel established.
That’s scary for the competition, because this 24-year-old is ultra talented.
"“I’m more comfortable on the course, too. Two years is — it’s kind of the time. For me it’s always taken me a lot longer than most, I would think, even though I’m still 24 and doing really well — pretty well on Tour,” DeChambeau said during the RBC Heritage. “But at every stage it’s always taken me a couple of years to get comfortable. And I’m finally starting to get a little comfortable out here. My golf swing and putting is solidified. It’s about getting better here and there. That’s what I’m doing. So, I can say, yes, I am playing really well.”"
DeChambeau is 14th on Tour in strokes gained off the tee and 16th in strokes gained approaching the green. His putting (72nd on Tour in SG) can be good enough to keep him afloat this week on greens he’ll have a better hang of.
