Rickie Fowler returns to the Fort Worth Invitational for the first time since 2014. His last trip went south, but his first four trips to Colonial weren’t all that bad.

Fowler made four cuts with a T16 in 2011 and T5 in 2012. He shot a 63 with a double bogey on the last in ’11.

The orange-clad golfer has two runner-up finishes in the 2017-18 season and an unofficial win at the Hero World Challenge.

Fowler was solo runner-up at the Masters and has seven top-25 finishes in total this season.

Coming off of a week of rest, I like Fowler’s chances to thrive at Colonial.

He’s kept the ball in the short grass relatively well this season. If that continues, he can fire at what are usually fairly receptive greens. He’s 10th in GIR this year.

After finishing second in strokes gained putting last season, it’s hard to come to grips that he’s 131st in that category now past the halfway point of 2017-18.

These stats are from 2015, but Roto Grinders show Fowler is nearly a shot better in strokes gained putting on bentgrass greens (featured at Colonial) versus others.

Fowler owns just three missed cuts since this time last season. He MC’d in his last start at the PLAYERS Championship but hasn’t missed the weekend twice in a row since summer 2016.
