Fort Worth Invitational Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Colonial
Those who follow the Tour week in and week out saw Webb Simpson was getting his groove back. Few could have seen him walloping the field like he did at the PLAYERS.
Regardless, Simpson’s regained comfort on the greens now two-plus years post anchored putter ban. Simpson’s fifth in strokes gained putting this season, up from 88th in 2016-17 and 177th in 2015-16.
He’s remained a very good iron player the entire time. It’s all coming together now as Simpson’s made six cuts in a row, half of which are top-10s. He has five top-10s all season and a T20 at the Masters.
A T5 at the RBC Heritage last month and a week of rest may be a couple more positives.
This will be his first start with the monkey off his back. He went 107 starts from his last win in 2013 to the PLAYERS.
He had chances to end that streak sooner at the Fort Worth Invitational. Simpson finished T3 here in 2016 and solo fifth last year where he held the 54-hole lead. He’s a combined 21-under-par in the last two trips to Hogan’s Alley.
Simpson’s in the positive in all major strokes gained categories and has a well-rounded game suitable for this venue.
