Fort Worth Invitational Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Colonial
Jon Rahm made a splash in his Colonial debut last year. He had a 10-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff.
Instead, he settled for a Sunday 66 and four rounds of par or better on the way to a T2.
He mentioned last year that this course suits his eye and reminds him of playing in his native Spain.
"“The original courses like this one where you’re not supposed to, you know, a lot of them are fade holes and it’s suits my eye perfectly, so I’m able to take over corners like I tried to do on 18, like I did on 1, 2, 3. Even if I went through the fairway,” Rahm said. “I’m comfortable enough to start doing that. Even when I’m not supposed to hit a fade, like 12 or 14, I still hit a fade in the fairways.”"
Rahm could be playing on Mars and still finish well, though. He won this spring against a good field at the European Tour’s Open de Espana and earlier this year at the CareerBuilder Challenge. Rahm hasn’t missed a cut in 2018 and had his career best at a major with fourth place at the Masters.
The 23-year-old is living up to the hype built from becoming the world No. 1 amateur in the world and then a three-time winner in 2017.
Rahm’s first in birdie average and is 18th in greens in regulation. Like most on this list, he’ll be coming off of a week away from competition.
Like Rose, he’s another notable European skipping the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, running simultaneously.
