BMW PGA Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 picks at Wentworth
Paul Casey and the BMW PGA Championship appear to be an obvious match. The Surrey native grew up attending this event as a child. He even played in the event from 2002-13 and won it in 2009.
Yet, Casey is making his first start in five years this weekend. Injuries and PGA Tour preferences have kept him on the west side of the pond until now.
“It’s a bit of a homecoming for me,” Casey was quoted by the European Tour. “Wentworth is really one of the reasons I now play golf. I used to go to watch the PGA Championship when I was a kid and watching Faldo and Seve play round that golf course was really what sparked my interest in the game.”
Casey’s most recent memories of Wentworth (two missed cuts) aren’t great, but his body of work is impressive.
The win in ’09 highlights seven top-25 finishes in front of his home galleries. His ability to thread it down Wentworth’s tight fairways while utilizing his length is a big asset.
He also has seven top-25 finishes worldwide in 2018.
The Englishman won the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship and is sixth in the US in stroke average.
He comes into this week as fresh as any with two weeks off since his T5 at the Wells Fargo Championship.
