Francesco Molinari has got to think he’ll win this tournament sooner or later.

He came close to a BMW PGA Championship win as possible in taking solo second place two shots off the pace. It was his fourth top-10 at Wentworth.

Molinari also led through 54 holes en route to solo fifth place in 2015.

Some time away from the PGA Tour may do him some good. Molinari’s made a good deal of cuts but is lacking the top-10s we’re used to seeing from him.

Molinari is seventh on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee and 13th tee to green. He was sixth in the field in greens in regulation at the 2017 BMW PGA.

He’s not going to win a putting contest, but give him enough chances and he’ll roll some in.

A good week this week would go a long way for Molinari to qualify for his first Ryder Cup team since 2012.
