Let me know if you’ve heard this before, but Jordan Spieth thinks his putter’s finally due to heat up.

"“I think good things are about to come. I feel a good run coming for the second half of the season,” Spieth said after last week’s Fort Worth Invitational. “Today was — each day I’ve felt better and better with the wedges and the putter and the short game…”"

Feels don’t always mean numbers. Spieth was a negative in strokes gained putting three of four days in Fort Worth. His ball striking has otherwise been solid this season as he waits for the flat stick to come around.

Maybe Jack’s place will cure his ails. Spieth has a solid resume at Muirfield Village with five cuts made in five tries. He posted a T3 in 2015 and has three top-20s.

Tough, speedy greens could be an equalizer for the field. He’s 18th in strokes gained off the tee and second in greens in regulation, so he should have as many birdie looks as any this week.

“You’ve got to stay very patient.  Driving the ball is key,” Spieth said in 2015. “…you really need to be in the fairway to get to any of these hole locations with the speed of the greens.  Driving the ball is key and obviously leaving the ball below the hole.

These are the fastest greens, other than‑‑ they’re probably about the same as Augusta National.  With that being said, with this thick rough, you just can’t put yourself above the hole or you don’t have much of a chance.”

Spieth is eighth in strokes gained around the green.

He has four top-10s this season and four more top-25s in 2018. A good putting week should be all it takes for Spieth to win again.
