Memorial Tournament Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for Muirfield Village
Twice has Fowler been on the doorstep of victory at the Memorial. He took solo second in his debut in 2010 three shots behind Justin Rose who reached 18-under, the lowest score since Ernie Els did it in 2004.
Seven years later, Fowler came close again with a loss to Jason Dufner in a playoff with Anirban Lahiri.
"“It’s a fine line on this golf course. You’ve got to hit fairways, but from there you have to be hitting your numbers,” Fowler said in 2017. “If you’re off with line or distance, you end up with some very tough up-and-downs around this golf course.”"
Hey, good thing Fowler’s seventh in scrambling and 14th in sand saves, right?
It hasn’t been Fowler’s best year on the greens (90th strokes gained putting). Still, there are few I’d trust as much as him to navigate these tumultuous greens.
His best golf of 2018 has come in recent weeks. He took solo second at the Masters and has a pair of top-25s since.
One was a T14 last week at the Fort Worth Invitational where he posted four rounds in the 60s. Even more encouraging was that he gained nearly seven strokes on the greens.
