Italian Open Power Rankings: Top ten picks at Gardagolf
Molinari will try to ratchet back up to play in front of his home fans in Italy.
The Turin native spent a lot of energy to outlast Rory McIlroy to win last week’s BMW PGA.
Yeah, I feel drained now, so I can’t really think about next week, but yeah, I’ll have a couple of days off and try to recover as much as possible,” Molinari said last week. “It will be a busy week, I’m sure, but yeah, hopefully I can play similar golf to this week and be in contention again. Obviously it would be great to go back after a win like this to see many familiar faces, and just celebrate with them.”
Molinari has proven playing in his home country is a plus. He won the Te;ecom Italia Open in 2006 and the Italian Open exactly a decade after.
Molinari has five top-25s in 2018 and has made seven of nine cuts playing primarily on the PGA Tour and co-sanctioned events.
He’s 12th in strokes gained tee to green and seventh off the tee. Playing a new course should neutralize Molinari’s weakness on the greens.
It’s hard to imagine that Molinari’s never won twice in the same year. Don’t be surprised to see that change on Sunday.
