Italian Open Power Rankings: Top ten picks at Gardagolf
Tommy Fleetwood just continues to churn out high finishes. His T20 at last week’s BMW PGA was ho-hum compared to his 2018 results.
The long-locked Englishman is more likely to finish inside the top 25 (seven times) than not (10 starts). He won in Abu Dhabi and finished near the top at the Honda Classic.
Against elite fields, Fleetwood posted a solid T14 at the WGC-Mexico, T17 at the Masters and T7 at the PLAYERS.
To watch his swing is to know he’s a talented ball striker. Fleetwood is fifth on the European Tour in strokes gained tee to green and third in greens in regulation.
His short game (45th strokes gained around the green) and performance off the tee (11th strokes gained) aren’t areas in his game to pick apart, either.
Fleetwood will try to replicate the Italian Open success from Milano. He placed T7 and T6 the past two years.
In a week without an obvious favorite and no course history to fall back on, I find myself leaning on the most talented player in the field. I believe that to be Mr. Fleetwood.
