Otaegui has asserted himself the king of one-on-one competition on the European Tour. He won the Paul Lawrie Match Play in 2017 and this year’s inaugural Belgian Knockout featuring abbreviated stroke play matches.

He appears to be closing in on his first 72-hole stroke play win.

Otaegui took solo second at the China Open last month where he shot 68-69-67-67 to miss a playoff by one.

A missed cut at last week’s BMW PGA snapped an impressive streak of 11 cuts made in a row dating back to October. In 2018, Otaegui has three top-10s and four more top-25s.

The Spaniard is one of the best ball strikers in this week’s field. He’s 35th in driving accuracy, seventh in greens in regulation and 20th in strokes gained tee to green.

Otaegui doesn’t have a glaring weakness as he’s 39th in strokes gained around the green and is still in the positive in strokes gained putting despite sitting 122nd on the European Tour.
