It’s tough to go against the two-time defending champ for the number one spot, but DJ’s clearly the best player in Memphis this week.

I think we all thought Johnson would have more than one win this season by now, but it’s not like he’s trunk slamming every week, either.

Johnson enters this week off of four top-20s in a row and 12 in his last 13 starts. That’s phenomenal.

He’s also a 2012 winner of the FedEx St. Jude, as you can see above. At this event, DJ finished T10 in 2013, T24 in 2014, WD in 2015 and solo fifth last year.

“I like the shape of all the holes,” Johnson said in 2012. “It sets up good to my eye and I just — you know, just something about the course that — each hole is different, but, you know, I like the sight lines off the tees.”

Johnson finished T8 last week at the Memorial and played his last 54 holes in 11-under.

He’s first on Tour in strokes gained off the tee, gaining over a full shot per round before even exiting the tee box. Even better, he’s first tee-to-green at 1.698.

He’s also third in par-4 scoring average and 25th strokes gained putting.

You’d like for there to be a couple more par-5s for Johnson to demolish, but clearly he’s shown he can fire low numbers at TPC Southwind.
