Fantasy Golf: FedEx St. Jude Classic DraftKings Picks
Ben Crane isn’t often thought of as a top player on the PGA TOUR, but when he’s on, he can compete with the best of them. Sure, he’s only ranked 301st in the world, and 134th in the FedEx Cup race. Still, TPC Southwind may as well be home away from home for the 42-year-old five-time PGA TOUR winner.
One of those victories, of course, came at the 2014 FedEx St. Jude Classic, where Crane held off Troy Merritt for the one-stroke win. That Sunday, Crane shot 3-over-par 73, tied for the worst round of anybody inside the top 40 finishers. The good news? In order for that to work, he had to build up a strong 54-hole cushion, which he did, going 13-under through three rounds.
Memphis has been good to Crane over the years, with six top-20 finishes in his career, counting last year’s tie for 10th. He’s been coming on strong lately, as well, with a pair of top-15s highlighting a streak of seven cuts made. Two weeks ago, he scored his top finish of the year, a tie for eighth at Colonial.
Crane’s $7,400 price on DraftKings is completely fair – a strong balance between his reputation as a “horse for the course” and his admittedly meager ranking among the rest of the field. Of course, the name of the fantasy golf game is value, and Crane’s recent form has me believing that he can get the job done for you.
