Travelers Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 at TPC River Highlands
If he could pull off the major feat, I’m not putting much past Koepka, who could be endorsing more than Michelob Ultra here soon. All facets of his game were firing at Shinnecock where he withstood a stern test to stroll up 18 without much stress.
It’s doubly impressive when you consider Koepka was unable to compete until April due to his recovery from a wrist injury. In short time, the former Seminole is 5-for-5 in cuts made with a runner-up to Justin Rose at Colonial and a T11 at the PLAYERS featuring a Sunday 63.
Koepka’s made both cuts at the Travelers Championship, finishing T9 in his last start in 2016.
He’s 17th in birdie average, 33rd in greens in regulation and is long enough to hit whatever club he’d like off the tee and still have short clubs into these generally soft greens.
This will be his third week in a row competing, the first time he’s done that since last May-June. Fatigue can be a factor for major winners if they choose to honor their commitment for the following week, but a lack of travel to get to New York for media obligations then on to Connecticut is not too taxing.
Let’s hope the folks at Travelers have a winner’s jacket big enough in the arms for Koepka.
