Travelers Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 at TPC River Highlands
A T10 at last week’s U.S. Open was an extension of a low-key very good season for Webb Simpson so far. It was his ninth top-25 of the wraparound season highlighted by his win at The PLAYERS Championship.
He’s missed just two cuts all season and can grind out rounds well. Simpson is 23rd in strokes gained around the green and is in the positive in all the main strokes gained categories.
Perhaps most importantly, he’s flipped his atrocious putting numbers post-anchor ban into an overwhelming positive. He’s eighth in strokes gained on the greens and is money from close range (seventh inside 10 feet).
Simpson and caddie Paul Tesori make a great combo around this course. They’ve devised a game plan that’s resulted in six made cuts in six starts including a T5 in 2013 and a T8 in 2017.
"“I’ve played this tournament more than any other tournament besides Arnold Palmer Invitational or Bay Hill,” Simpson said in 2013. “You know, what I’ve learned here is you’ve got to be patient, because there are plenty of birdie holes here, but at the same time the holes aren’t necessarily that easy. They’ve got some trick spots and pins are tough.”"
Simpson took two weeks off prior to the U.S. Open, so I expect him to be in good form this week.
