Travelers Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 at TPC River Highlands
Give Jordan Spieth a sand shot to win a golf tournament, and the ball’s going in. He miraculously holed out for his first PGA Tour win at the 2013 John Deere Classic and used a little more touch to find the cup at last year’s Travelers Championship.
Spieth won his Travelers debut in a playoff with Daniel Berger at 12-under. Spieth opened with a 63 and posted all four rounds of par or better. His short game was on fire all week, not just in the playoff.
He may not need the same magic around the greens the way he’s hitting it. Spieth is fourth in strokes gained tee to green as part of his perhaps best ball striking year of his career. TPC River Highlands greens aren’t out of this world tough and Spieth is tops on Tour in strokes gained on bentgrass according to Future of Fantasy.
Spieth owns three runner-up finishes and nine total top-25s since December. He’s got to be hungry for his first win since the Open Championship, especially coming off two missed cuts.
Spieth is sixth in birdie average, fifth in par-4 scoring and 26th in scrambling.
"“..this is a special tournament. It’s extremely well done. We are pampered here, and guys thoroughly enjoy coming to this tournament,” Spieth said in 2017. “I never heard a bad thing said about it, and it was one of the very reasons why we’re here.”"
