Brooks Koepka pulled off the back-to-back U.S. Open wins, but there was a time on Sunday when it looked like Patrick Reed was going to scoop up the first two majors of 2018.

Reed shook off the cobwebs from his Masters win to insert himself into the mix with three birdies off the bat in the final round at Shinnecock. He ran out of gas on the way to earning solo fourth, but that makes it three top-fives in majors in a row and six top-10s on Tour in 2018, all since March.

Reed is hitting his groove at TPC River Highlands of late. After missing the cut twice and faring no better than T18 in his first four trips to Cromwell, he finished T11 in 2016 and T5 last year.

"“I love this place. I wouldn’t be here since 2012 if I didn’t love this place,” Reed said in 2017. “I just think it’s awesome. It’s an awesome change of pace, and just an awesome venue and awesome place. My wife and I really enjoy coming here. It’s a lot of fun.”"

Reed is 23rd in strokes gained tee to green and a very tidy sixth in SG around the green. He was blistering his driver long and straight at Shinnecock and was solid with his irons, too.

The Texan is 19th in birdie average, 32nd in sand saves and 11th in par-4 scoring.
