Francesco Molinari is coming in on fine form for his debut at TPC Potomac.

One of Europe’s best ball strikers won the prestigious BMW PGA Championship and took second in a European Tour Rolex Series event, the Italian Open, in recent weeks.

In his last start, the Italian tied for 25th where he admirably got around Shinnecock Hills in 75 or less all four days.

Molinari had been on the cusp of a big week for a while in 2018, racking up four prior top-25s, and is now off to the races.

On the PGA Tour, Molinari is sixth in strokes gained off the tee and has been solid in approaches and around the green. The key will be putting.

Molinari is 207th on Tour in strokes gained, though that doesn’t count his high Euro Tour finishes. When he finished first and second, he was seventh and 16th, respectively, in the field in putts per round. Both courses featured Bentgrass.

Molinari took a week off before and after the U.S. Open, so hopefully he’ll be ripe and ready to go.

At the 2016 Quicken Loans National, Molinari finished T8 at Congressional.
