Almost.

Charles Howell III almost put to bed a decade-long winless bout at the 2017 Quicken Loans National. The PGA Tour veteran hasn’t had trouble paying the rent in the last decade, but he would have loved to cash in on his chance in last year’s playoff against Kyle Stanley.

He comes back to TPC Potomac with his game in proper shape to contend once again.

Howell III has made 11 straight cuts and finished T26 or better in eight of those events.

He has four top-10s in the 2017-18 season thanks to a well-rounded game.

He’s a positive in all the major strokes gained categories. Of course, his ball striking is ever steady. Howell III is 27th in GIR and is solid in or out of the fairway.

He’s also 31st in par-4 scoring average.

TPC Potomac appears to be a course Howell III enjoys playing.

"“Well, I’m dating myself now, but I remember the old TPC back in my first year here was 2000 and I loved the golf course then and I think now it’s even better,” Howell said in 2017. “I think the redo of it is fantastic.”"

His short game and putting were great at last year’s event in stretches. They’ve been the reason he’s faltered in other chances to win, so that will be an area to watch this week.
