Marc Leishman used bookending 66s to make himself quite a bit of money at the 2017 Quicken Loans National. The Aussie finished three out of a playoff in a tie for fifth place.

It’s fitting he played well at TPC Potomac; it reminds him of home.

"“It feels a lot like Melbourne actually. You can hear that real, you know, the hard sound when the ball hits the green,” Leishman said in 2017. “You’ve got that purplish color, especially by the end of the day. It’s great, I’m enjoying it.”"

Leishman had a nice showing with his short game and putting last year as he finished under par despite hitting just 29 of 56 fairways.

Big Leish has made four of his last five cuts entering the week as well as eight of the last 10.

He took solo second at the Byron Nelson, solo ninth at the Masters and has three more top-10s, including a solo runner-up at the CJ Cup, in the 2017-18 wraparound season.

While he missed the cut at last week’s Travelers Championship, Leishman shot 67 on Friday. Leishman’s start at the Quicken Loans National will be his third week of competition in a row, but he took two of three weeks off prior to the U.S. Open.

Leishman is 17th on the PGA Tour in par-4 scoring and 49th in fairway proximity. He hasn’t been dominant in a particular major category this year while also lacking an Achilles heel.

He tends to show up well at the majors. Now at a course Justin Thomas described in 2017 as U.S. Open caliber, Leishman should be in line to grind out another high finish.
