It seems hard to believe, but this will be Sergio Garcia’s Open de France debut. He’ll be on a mission to gather as much information as possible at Le Golf National.

First, though, he needs to make the team. The 2017 Masters champion would assuredly be chosen as a captain’s pick if it came down to it, but right now he’s 18th.

Garcia showed signs of life recently after a rocky spring and early summer. The Spaniard finished T12 at the BMW International Open and entered Sunday just four off the pace.

Earlier in 2018, Garcia won the Singapore Open, picked up top-10s at the WGC-Mexico Championship and Valspar Championship and advanced to the knockout stage at the WGC-Match Play.

Garcia doesn’t have enough rounds on the PGA Tour this season for his stats to be considered for the rankings. Nonetheless, he’s gaining over a shot a round tee to green, most of which coming on his approaches.

He’ll have to rely on hitting his irons close this week to take the load off his putter, something Garcia is very capable of doing.
