Ian Poulter may have as much as experience at Le Golf National as anyone in the field this week. The Englishman’s played the Open de France 11 times in his career and has yet to miss a cut.

He’s been close to getting over the hump with a T3 in 2006, a solo third in 2009 and a T4 in 2012. His last start was a T45 last year after skipping from 2014-16.

He hasn’t always been a fan of the course as he was displeased with the setup in 2012, namely, but he’ll want to get his eyes on this year’s Ryder Cup venue. He’s down in the standings, but based on his play in 2018 and credentials, he’s high on the list to get a captain’s pick if it comes down to it.

Poulter has made his last eight cuts in a row and has placed top 25 or better in the last five events. He won the Houston Open to admirably earn his way to the Masters in the final hour.

He took the week off after a solid T25 at the U.S. Open, so he’ll be ready to go for a busy upcoming stretch.

Poulter is playing comfortable golf this season, piling up fairways and greens in regulation. He’s also 20th on the PGA Tour in proximity from the rough, so he’s finding one way or another to pile up birdie tries.

He’s a positive in the main strokes gained categories, including 62nd, up from 96th last season.
