Military Tribute at The Greenbrier: Power Rankings for TPC Old White
Phil Mickelson’s cooled off a bit since his start to 2018, but he’s still very much capable of winning his second Tour event this season.
Lefty won the WGC-Mexico earlier this season and racked up three more top-six finishes on the West Coast swing. Recently, Mickelson has made three cuts in a row with a T13 at the Memorial and a T12 at the St. Jude Classic.
He’ll be rested with two weeks off since the U.S. Open.
Here in West Virginia, Mickelson has had a tough go of it with three missed cuts in his first three tries until a T20 last year.
The tactician Mickelson calculated the elevation changes well to win in Mexico City and appears to be calibrating in the mountains of West Virginia.
"“My record here has not been stellar, but I’ve really gotten some good work in these last couple days in the one area I had struggled in the past, which is distance control with my irons,” Mickelson said before last year’s event."
Mickelson is getting it done with not only his irons, but his flat stick. He’s 10th in strokes gained on approaches and second in SG putting.
Driving accuracy has been a woe for Phil this season (surprise, surprise) but it shouldn’t be too burdening if he keeps it reasonably straight this week.
