John Deere Classic Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for TPC Deere Run
Ryan Moore won the John Deere Classic in 2016 a decade after making his tournament debut.
The win was no flash in the pan for Moore at this event. He was 8-for-8 in cuts made before missing the weekend for the first time last year.
"“It’s a golf course I have enjoyed,” Moore said in 2016. “…it’s one I’ve grown to like more I would say over the last few years. I’ve come to appreciate how well it does fit me and suit my game.”"
Moore’s game is one that not long, but efficient tee to green. He’s third on Tour in fairways hit and 24th in strokes gained on approaches. Moore’s also got a productive short game (13th SG around the green).
It hasn’t been a great year on the greens for the 35-year-old, but he can cure some of those ails on this week’s smooth, relatively flat greens.
Moore has 10 top-30s in the wraparound season, three of which came in his last four starts. He has three top-10s and has missed just three cuts in 2018.
He is in jeopardy of missing the Open Championship for the first time since 2012. Something tells me Moore will be in the mix for the final qualifying spot this weekend.
