Brandt Snedeker’s game is rounding into form just at the right time. After missing 21 weeks at the end of 2017 with a rib/sternum joint injury, Snedker got off to an understandably slow start to 2018.

His world ranking dropped, and without any other exemption, he had to fight for a T3 last week at the Greenbrier to make it into the Open Championship field via the Qualifying Series.

Snedeker goes from outside the field to a dark horse to win at Carnoustie due to the form he’s shown not only at the Open (top-25s, including a T3, in three of last five starts) but in recent weeks.

The 37-year-old had one top-20 in his first nine starts. Since the Texas Open in April, Snedeker has three top-15s including a T6 at the St. Jude Classic and his best finish since the 2016 Wyndham Championship last week at the Greenbrier.

Snedeker’s ball-striking stats aren’t where he wants them, but his putting (38th strokes gained) and short game (35th SG around the green) are pretty close to peak levels.

Snedeker often historically chooses rest the week before the Open, but he’s honoring his commitment and returning to TPC Deere Run for the first time since he finished T2 in 2009.

"“Going up there, great golf course for me. Very similar to (TPC Old White),” Snedeker said in advance of the John Deere Classic. “Lot of wedges in your hand, lot of birdie opportunities. Looking forward — I haven’t played there in quite a few years. Looking forward to going back, having some fun up there, and making a lot of birdies and getting some good momentum going into the Open Championship hopefully.”"
