John Deere Classic Power Rankings: Top 10 picks for TPC Deere Run
A big hat tip to Joaquin Niemann. The 19-year-old Chilean secured his PGA Tour card last week with yet another top-10 and big Sunday to boot. Niemann carded a final-round 64 to finish T5 at the Greenbrier for his best result as a pro.
The 64 bookended an opening 63. It was his fourth top-10 in nine starts on the PGA Tour, which is already enough to lock down a Tour card for next season.
Niemann is a phenomenal ball striker. He’s gaining over a shot a round on approaches and another shot when you mix in off the tee and putting. Niemann is very precise and can attack a golf course at any time.
He makes 4.39 birdies per round, which would rank among the Tour’s best if he had enough rounds to qualify for the statistical ranking.
His short game is his weakness, but he shouldn’t be needing to rely on it much this week.
This will be Niemann’s first trip to the John Deere Classic. It’s his third week in a row playing and he’ll be in the field at Carnoustie next week.
